  The NRA Range Safety Officer program was developed in response to the demand for a nationally-recognized range safety officer certification.  NRA Range Safety Officers are people who possess the knowledge, skills, and attitude essential to organizing, conducting, and supervising safe shooting activities and range operations.

  NRA Range Safety Officers must be 21 years of age or older.

  It is highly recommended that firearms instructors complete this credential if they plan to take groups of students to the range.  Not only does this give the instructor knowledge of range emergency procedures, but many ranges require an RSO to be present if using the range for lessons.

  This course does not encompass the functions and responsibilities of a Range Officer who conducts NRA competition shooting events as defined by Rule 11.5 of the NRA Rule Book.

  •  9+ hours class instruction

  •  Range Safety Officer Roles and Responsibilities
  •  Range standards and operating procedures
  •  Range inspection and rules
  •  Firearms stoppages and malfunctions
  •  Safety Briefings
  •  Emergency Procedures
  •  On-Site range visit (if available)
  •  Final Exam – Must score 90% or better
  •  Learn about additional NRA skill-building opportunities
  •  Prerequisite for NRA Chief Range Safety Officer Certification.
